There is a natural urge to want to get things done.
As photographers we want to create something, complete something or get organized. Any one project contains all three goals. Getting the shot, finishing the processing, delivering and putting everything away are all part of the process, the cycle. When we complete the cycle without unnecessary lags, we feel productive. We are productive.
Cal Newport (calnewport.com) author of Deep Work, writes quite a bit about how we can get things done, primarily by reducing distractions. The longer we can pay attention to something without being sidetracked, the more efficient we become at the tasks we are doing. More efficient means faster means we can get more done.
It’s a pretty simple principle and worth applying. Paying better attention to what we are doing doesn’t have a down side.
