A RIVER TOWN EXPLORATION PROJECT

The River Town Exploration Project, April 2016

The Photographers Group had been meeting for almost a year in 2016 and we wanted to do something collectively. Photo clubs typically hold contests, sometimes focusing on a theme. Instead of a contest we decided to embark on a project.

We decided to focus on one town, Frenchtown (the home of The Photographers Group) during one spring day. Approximately 70 photographers were recruited to spend the day in Frenchtown photographing whatever scene or details caught their eye. No digital files were submitted by the photographers and no online gallery created. Photographers had prints made at local labs which they submitted for display.

The project was a wonderful success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

Taking the photos was only part of the project. We also needed somewhere to show our work. The best place was where we originated and had our meetings at Brokaw Photography Studio. The studio wasn't set up to be a gallery so we set about building display boards that could be set-up for a show and then broken down and stored.

Group members had a great time building and setting up the displays and even more fun at the shows reception. It was by all accounts a successful project.
