THE DARK SIDE

How often do we shoot the dark rather than the light?

Sometimes for sure. Sometimes it’s the shadows and the unlit areas that draw our attention, that make the shot. Everyone loves a good black.

Nighttime is a good time for this (doncha know). It’s the best time actually. It’s full of dark. Full of black.

Film is great for black. When there is no light, there’s no exposure. Just film base and that prints black. Digital doesn’t like black as much. It wants to put something in there. It’s like the individual pixels have been order to deliver something, anything, so they do. Even if they have to make it up. Even if they have to create just noise. Then we have to take it out.

If it’s black, it’s black. That’s the way it should be.
