CLOUDY DAYS

Cloudy days can be deceiving. To the eye and to the camera things look rather monochromatic. There isn’t a lot of variation. No blue sky or bright sunlit areas and dark shadows.

For some subjects this may be disappointing but for others it’s wonderful. The light is soft instead of crispy and the colors take on a pastel-ish look. The depth and subtleties may not be immediately apparent when you are shooting, though. The LCD on the back of the camera may not be showing you all there is to see.

But if you shoot in RAW and know your way around software you’ll find plenty to work with, especially if your choice of subject matches the light.
