COMMONPLACE

David Plowden, (1932- ), is an American Photographer known for his images of America, as she is. His many works are of the regular, ordinary American scenes we encounter every day. The commonplace. He practiced seeing, noticing and depicting, not just the pretty and scenic but the day to day storefronts, street, buildings and culture we typically take for granted.

He spent a lifetime creating film based images of the towns, farms, streets, and ‘scapes of the country showing us that masterful photography is far more than the spectacular. It is the art of seeing, really seeing and showing.

Photographers know this. It is just plain fun to notice and photograph the things we see everyday. Our photos may not be of interest to anyone else, but we got to enjoy noticing, really noticing something. It’s awareness in action.
