EQUIPMENT

Can we ever have enough equipment?

Our equipment venders say no (of course). There is always a better lens, a better camera, a new do-dad to get. Why not? That’s part of the enjoyment of being a photographer. There is an endless supply of toys.

Some of these toys will make us better photographers. Some we think will make us better. And some are just for fun.

It’s up to us to know the difference and to value what we get. To some people a new $4000 camera is no big deal. Just another thing. To many it’s an investment to be fully utilized. To the rest it’s just a dream (or not even thought about).

If you don’t have a lot of disposable income to spare it makes sense to be practical. Your current camera may seem obsolete, now but there is a good chance it was state of the art when it came out. It took great photos then so unless it’s broken it still takes great photos. In reality cameras don’t take pictures, people do.

No matter where you fall on the equipment spectrum the key is to enjoy what you have. The best camera to have is the one in your hand.
