FOG

Fog is fun.  It has softness and mystery.  Fun to photograph in, terrible to drive in.

It was also a mystery when to expect fog.  Sometimes I could guess, like when it was rainy or there was snow on the ground and the air got suddenly warm.  But what made the fog?

Naturally, there is a physical reason for fog.  It’s the dewpoint, which is the temperature at which the air just can’t hold it’s water and it condenses on cool surfaces (dew and frost) or in the air itself (rain and fog).

Many weather sites will list hourly predictions for temperature and dewpoint.  If you want to get a sense of when fog may happen, look for times when predicted temperature and predicted dewpoint are the same (or really close).  Here is a table from a weather website call Intellicast showing hourly predictions.  (www.intellicast.com/Local/Hourly.aspx)
Fog is unlikely.
