Yesterday is history. Whatever happened, whatever you did contributed to who you are now.
Some of us sometimes bask or wallow in the past. Others forget about it and move on. Either way it’s there, was real and our photos are a record of it. But we may not be systematically keeping this record organized which can be an advantage as we move through life.
Most of us are good at keeping track of vacation photos or family shots but pay less attention to our everyday images. We snap away maybe on a random or regular basis and then squirrel away the files.
Fortunately our cameras record dates so we can see when photos were taken but how often do the photos reflect the date, the era of our life when we took the photo? Maybe seldom, but then again maybe always.
You are in every photo that you take. You were there. Those photos are a brief visual record of what you saw and how you chose to see it at that moment. When you think about, that’s kind of fun. It’s your personal history one scene at a time.
When we begin to think of our photos like this it can be motivating to want to keep track of them so we can easily find them years from now. Trying to go back in time to organize past photos can be overwhelming and ripe for procrastination, but starting with your next set of photos is easy. Think of it as visually writing your memoirs and starting the first chapter.
